The Minister of Energy, Hon. January Makamba arrived in Saudi Arabia on a two-day visit to the country at the invitation of Saudi Arabia’s Minister of Energy, Abdulaziz bin Salman Al Saud. While in the country, Minister Makamba is expected to participate in the launch of the “Saudi Green Initiative” to be held in Riyadh on 23 October 2021 as well as holding meetings to announce investment opportunities in the energy sector in Tanzania.
At King Khaled International Airport, Minister Makamba was received by the Tanzanian Ambassador to Saudi Arabia, Ambassador Ally J. Mwadini accompanied by senior embassy officials. Shortly after arriving in the country, Minister Makamba met and held talks with Engineer Faisal Ali Al Swayed from Advanced Electronics Company and Engineer Adil Saleh Alomair, Chairman of the Renewable Energy Committee. Speaking to Hon. Faisal, Minister Makamba said “Tanzania has made great strides in the supply of natural gas and electricity but the biggest challenge has been the availability of equipment such as modern natural gas and electricity meters to match the pace of distribution and technology in general”, for his part. Mha. Faisal assured Minister Makamba that his company has great potential to produce meters based on customer needs and promised to keep in touch with the Embassy with a view to investing in Tanzania.
In addition, Minister Makamba expressed the Government’s intention to use more technology to end the problem of theft and loss of energy which is holding back the great efforts made by the Government to provide citizens with reliable energy. “One of the major tasks we have now is to look at how we can use technology to end this challenge” said Minister Makamba and invited the experts to visit Tanzania with the aim of looking at various investment opportunities in the energy sector.
During the visit, Minister Makamba was accompanied by the Commissioner for Petroleum and Gas, Ndg. Michale Mjinja and TPDC CEO, Dr. James Mataragio.
