The East African Crude Oil Project (EACOP)

PROJECT DETAILS

The East African Crude Oil Pipeline (EACOP) Project

This project involves constructing 24 inches insulated 1,443-kilometer pipeline with the capacity of transporting 216,000 barrels of crude oil per day from Hoima, Uganda, to Chongoleani (Tanga), Tanzania, to enable shipment of Ugandan crude Oil to the international market. The EACOP system is designed to have six pumping stations, of which two will be located in Uganda and four in Tanzania and two pressure reduction stations in Tanzania.

The marine export terminal will be constructed at Chongoleani, Tanga. With the waxy nature and viscosity of the crude oil, the pipeline will be heated above 50°C for easy flow of oil.  The project is being implemented by the EACOP Company with the following shareholders; Total (62%), TPDC (15%), UNOC (15%) and CNOOC (8%).  The Government of Tanzania and Uganda are respectively represented through their national oil companies.
