The District Commissioner of Lindi, Hon. Victoria Mwanziva, has commended the Tanzania Petroleum Development Corporation (TPDC) for being among the government institutions actively participating in the Southern Zone Agricultural, Livestock, and Fisheries Exhibitions (NaneNane). She also praised the Corporation for using the platform to educate the public on the implementation of oil and natural gas projects. She gave the commendation on August 2, 2025, during her visit to the TPDC pavilion at the ongoing exhibitions held at Ngongo Grounds in Lindi Municipality. Speaking at the pavilion, Mwanziva said that TPDC is a strategic institution, with the majority of its exploration, development, and production activities for natural gas taking place in the Lindi and Mtwara regions. “I highly commend TPDC for its full participation in this exhibition, as it gives the people of the Southern Zone an opportunity to learn how our national Corporation is implementing highly impactful gas projects that contribute to the growth of our country’s economy.” “The Sixth Phase Government, led by President of the United Republic of Tanzania Hon. Dr. Samia Suluhu Hassan, has continued to empower TPDC to implement major oil and natural gas projects, and today we have heard an expert speak about the ongoing exploration project in the Lindi and Mtwara block. These are major achievements that citizens must be informed about,” added Hon. Mwanziva. In another development, Mr. Innocent Mvamba, a Palynologist from TPDC, provided a detailed explanation of TPDC's responsibilities and ongoing projects to Hon. Mwanziva and her delegation. “According to the Petroleum Act of 2015, TPDC is recognized as the National Oil Company responsible for various roles including exploration, development, production, processing, transportation, and distribution of oil and gas in the country. So far, our country has discovered approximately 57.54 trillion cubic feet of natural gas both offshore and onshore. TPDC is also continuing with exploration projects in the Eyasi Wembere, Lindi-Mtwara, Mnazi Bay North, SongoSongo West blocks, and Block 41B/41C,” Mvamba stated. He added, “other projects implemented by TPDC include the distribution of natural gas for industrial, domestic, and automotive use. For example, so far, the natural gas distribution network has connected a total of 57 industries, 1,512 households, and serves more than 5,000 vehicles and over 5,000 motorized tricycles (bajajis). Additionally, TPDC, in collaboration with the Rural Energy Agency (REA), is continuing to implement a project that aims to connect 470 houses and 1 institution in Mnazi Mmoja Ward – Lindi, and 530 houses in Kisemvule Village – Mkuranga,” Mvamba explained. This year’s National NaneNane Exhibitions are taking place across various zones in the country. For the Southern Zone, the exhibition is being held at Ngongo Grounds in Lindi Municipality under the theme: "Elect Good Leaders for Sustainable Development of Agriculture, Livestock, and Fisheries 2025."
