The Deputy Permanent Secretary responsible for the Oil and Gas Sector from the Ministry of Energy, Dr. James Mataragio, on July 26, 2025, visited Pumping Station 5 located in Igunga District, Tabora Region, along with Camp 10 which serves as a storage facility for pipeline materials for the East African Crude Oil Pipeline (EACOP) construction project. Dr. Mataragio emphasized the significance of the project for both countries involved and expressed his satisfaction with the progress made at the station, which has now reached 41 percent completion. "I would like to sincerely commend you for the progress achieved in the construction of this project and urge you to ensure timely completion as per the implementation schedule," said Dr. Mataragio. He further stated that the government will continue to provide its support to ensure successful implementation of the EACOP project and applauded the prioritization of local workforce involvement in the project's execution. On his part, the National Project Coordinator from TPDC, Asiadi Mrutu, stated that this particular pumping station will primarily rely on electricity supplied by TANESCO and will be equipped with emergency generators with a combined capacity of 30.57 Megawatts. The EACOP crude oil pipeline project is expected to have six pumping stations along the route transporting crude oil from Hoima, Uganda to Chongoleani in Tanga, Tanzania. These stations are designed to reduce the velocity of the crude oil being transported while also protecting the pipeline infrastructure. Mrutu added that in Tanzania, the pumping stations are being constructed in Muleba, Mbogwe, Igunga, and Singida, while the remaining two will be located in Uganda. While at Camp 10, Dr. Mataragio toured the pipe storage yard and observed various ongoing activities at the site.
