The Tanzania Petroleum Development Corporation (TPDC) has emerged as a vital player in advancing the African Union's energy agenda, which aims to ensure reliable electricity access for over 300 million households across the continent. This was highlighted by the TPDC's Public Relations and Communications Manager during a presentation at the TPDC exhibition booth at the ongoing African Energy Summit at the Julius Nyerere International Conference Centre (JNICC). Speaking to various visitors, the TPDC Manager emphasized the corporation's ongoing efforts to transform Tanzania's energy sector and contribute to Africa's energy development. "TPDC, in addition to discovering significant natural gas reserves amounting to 57.54 trillion cubic feet, has become one of the primary sources of electricity production in the country. We are continuing with extensive research on natural gas and oil, development, and production activities to increase gas supply and support its utilization in the economy," explained Ms. Marie. Ms. Marie further elaborated that TPDC, in collaboration with its subsidiary GASCO, is engaged in the construction of critical infrastructure for the distribution and transportation of natural gas across the country. This includes the development of pipelines, a central CNG station, mobile gas stations, and specialized trucks for gas transportation to ensure that natural gas is available for electricity generation, industrial use, and other sectors throughout Tanzania. The corporation has also been actively engaging with private companies to build smaller plants that can convert natural gas into liquefied form. Several companies have already entered into preliminary agreements with TPDC to support this initiative.
