Project Overview
The Ntorya Gas Field is located within the Ruvuma Block in southeastern Tanzania, covering an area of approximately 756.36km². Seismic data acquired and exploration wells drilled in the area indicate a substantial natural gas resource estimated at around 1.6 trillion cubic feet (TCF). The project is operated by ARA Petroleum, with Ndovu Resources and the Tanzania Petroleum Development Corporation (TPDC) as partners. TPDC is also a Licence Holder for the Development Licence.
Seismic data interpretation and Resource Evaluation of the extensive 3D seismic survey acquired in 2022 were conducted, driving revisions to the Field Development Plan (FDP) to optimize production potential and identify new areas for drilling of exploration and development wells.
In May 2024, the Government of the United Republic of Tanzania granted a 25-year development license to TPDC, ARA Petroleum and Ndovu Resources in order to proceed with development of the field.
The Ntorya Gas Field will be developed in two phases:
A 35 km, 14-inch diameter pipeline will be constructed to connect the Ntorya Field to the Madimba Natural Gas Processing Plant. In July 2025, TPDC awarded the EPC contract to China Petroleum Pipeline (CPP) and China Petroleum Technology & Development Corporation (CPTDC), marking a key milestone. The project has since progressed into the engineering phase.
