The Minister of Energy, Hon. January Makamba has continued his working visit abroad where on 28 October 2021 he met and held talks with the Minister of Energy and Minerals of Algeria, Hon. Mohamed Arkab. During the talks, Minister Makamba described the historic relations that exist between Tanzania and Algeria and expressed the intention of the Government of Tanzania to develop these relations in the economic sphere for the future of the two countries.
Speaking at the meeting, Minister Makamba said “Tanzania and Algeria have had a relationship that is historic and now the Government of Tanzania would like to see the relations of our two countries further improved by having economic relations where from the beginning we look at the energy sector that our Algerian counterparts have struck. a big step ”.
For his part, the Minister of Energy and Minerals of Algeria, Hon. Mohamed Arkab described the readiness that exists within the Government of Algeria to cooperate with the Government of Tanzania. Minister Arkab said “First of all we are very happy for the Government of Tanzania to want to further develop our relations and especially in the area of economic growth which we really have the opportunity to improve further for the benefit of our two countries”. Minister Arkab further clarified that Algeria has extensive experience in the energy sector including oil and gas where they produce oil and gas and sell in and out of Algeria and major customers are European countries as they are geographically closer. “Through the National Oil Company, Sonatrach and its subsidiaries, we have been able to build a network of approximately 22,000 kilometers to supply gas locally as well as oil ports in various parts of the country,” said Wazri Arkab.
In addition, during the visit, Minister Makamba was accompanied by the Executive Director of TPDC, Dr. James Mataragio and Commissioner for Petroleum and Gas, Ndg. Michael Mjinja. For his part, the CEO of TPDC, Dr. James Mataragio outlined the opportunities available in the ups and downs of the oil and gas sector in the country where he invited Algeria to invest and partner with TPDC in those areas. “Tanzania has entered a middle-income economy where the demand for energy in the country has increased and so more investment in natural gas supply is important and also to ensure we continue to conduct exploration activities to meet the day-to-day needs, so we believe cooperation between our countries is important for the future of our countries ”explained Dr. Mataragio
For his part, the Commissioner for Petroleum and Gas, Ndg. Michael Mjinja described the great need for energy in Tanzania and stressed that Algeria is welcome to invest in Tanzania.
